Description

This course is restricted to sworn law enforcement officers.

This course discusses the importance of an objective use of force investigation, then leads students through each of the components of a thorough investigation. Previous students who completed the course have stated they felt more confident in documenting their own encounters, managing subordinates force incidents, and addressing agency risk management concerns with use of force events.

The target audience for this course is from the line officer preparing to promote to first line supervisor (sergeant) thru agency executives because the liabiilty and risk in use of force incidents is felt by the whole department.

Organized by

Captain Shaffer is a 31 year veteran of LASD, who developed this course with his colleague Lt. Olivier, after their own agency's use of force crisis.  They discovered plenty of training on how to use force, but nothing was available on how to thoroughly investigate and document incidents after the fact.
